This is not the high-speed industrial equipment found in mass-market factories \u2014 it is a manual device, requiring the operator to feed each individual stitch, one by one, through a precisely aligned needle. The process, known as tubular linking, is the finest method for seaming knitwear ever developed. And fewer than fifty artisans worldwide are truly proficient at it.<\/p>\n
What makes linking so important? Unlike standard overlook or flatlock seams, a linked seam is an exact continuation of the knitted fabric. Each stitch from the front panel is connected \u2014 not sewn over, but linked \u2014 to its corresponding stitch on the back panel. The result is a seam that is indistinguishable from the surrounding knit: no bulk, no visible seam allowance, no interruption to the fabric’s natural stretch and recovery.<\/p>\n
At Valtierri, every seam on a knit garment is linked by hand. The visible result is subtle: the shoulder line of a cashmere sweater falls without a ridge; the side of a cardigan lies completely flat. But the invisible result is profound \u2014 a garment that behaves as though it were knitted in a single continuous piece, with no weak points or distortion.<\/p>\n
This is a dying art. The commercial garment industry abandoned linking decades ago for faster, cheaper methods. But speed was never the measure at Valtierri.
